# Acting on many assets at once with bulk actions

When you have several assets to handle, bulk actions let you run one operation across all of them at once — saving time and keeping your work consistent. You'll find bulk actions on folder detail pages, inside a Collage, on search results, and on the Uploaded page for newly added assets. They're not available on the root Folders or Collages lists, or in Trash.

## Select assets and folders

Select items any of three ways:

- **Checkboxes** — click the checkbox next to each item, or the one in the header to select everything currently loaded.
- **Shift+Click** — select one item, then Shift+Click another to select everything in between.
- **Click and drag** — click an empty area and drag over the items you want to select. Dragging back over an already-selected item deselects it, and pressing **Esc** clears the selection.

As soon as you select anything, a **bulk action bar** appears showing how many items are selected. It floats over the page, and you can drag it to a different spot on screen rather than it staying pinned in place. If your library has more items than are currently loaded on the page, the bar also shows a **"Want to select all?"** prompt — click it to extend your selection to everything, not just what's loaded so far.

## Run a bulk action

- **Add to Collage** — add the selected assets to a new or existing Collage. (Inside a Collage, this option reads **Add to another collage**.)
- **Insert Custom Field** — apply a custom field value to the selected assets.
- **Share** — share the selected items in bulk.
- **Download** — save the selection to your device. Multiple assets download as a **ZIP file**; a single asset downloads directly. See [downloading assets](https://support.collage.inc/articles/downloading-assets).
- **Tag** — apply tags to the selected assets: type at least 3 characters to see suggestions, then click **Add**. See [tagging and custom fields](https://support.collage.inc/articles/tagging-and-custom-fields).
- **Move** — relocate the selected items to another folder. See [moving and deleting assets](https://support.collage.inc/articles/moving-and-deleting-assets).
- **Delete** — send the selected items to the Trash.

On a narrower window, the bar tucks less-used actions into a **···** menu to save space. **Add to Collage** and **Share** always stay visible; **Download**, **Tag**, **Insert Custom Field**, **Move**, and **Delete** are the ones that can collapse.

## Which actions work on assets only

> **Add to Collage**, **Tag**, and **Insert Custom Field** apply to assets only, so they don't work when your selection includes folders.

If you need to add items to a Collage, tag them, or set a custom field in bulk, deselect any folders first so your selection contains only assets. The other actions — **Share**, **Download**, **Move**, and **Delete** — work across a mixed selection.
