# Embedding an asset on external sites

Embedding lets you display a single asset — an image, video, document, or audio file — directly inside an external site, app, or dashboard. The embed code is a live URL served from Collage's content delivery network (CDN), so there's no need to download the file and re-upload it elsewhere: copy the code, paste it into your target platform, and the asset appears live wherever you place it.

## Why embed an asset

- *Always current* — the embed URL points at the asset itself, so replacing it with a new version keeps external placements up to date without swapping files or links. Uploading a new version can reset the embed code, so double-check the embed link after a major update.
- *No re-uploading* — one source of truth in Collage instead of exporting and hosting copies elsewhere.
- *Fast delivery* — assets are served from a CDN built for speed and scale.

## Get the embed code

1. Open the asset and choose **Share**.
2. In the **Share** dialog, go to the **Embed Code** tab.
3. Copy the embed code and paste it into your target platform.

The embed code is a direct URL to the asset on Collage's CDN — not an HTML snippet — so it can be dropped into any platform that accepts an embed link.

## Embed only single assets

> Warning: Only single assets can be embedded. Folders and Collages cannot. If you need to share a group of assets externally, use a share link instead — see [Creating share links](https://support.collage.inc/articles/creating-share-links).

An embed code and a share link solve different problems:

- Displaying an asset *inside* another website, app, email, or dashboard → embed code.
- Sending someone a page to **view or download** files → [share link](https://support.collage.inc/articles/creating-share-links).

## Manage your embeds

Every embed you create is tracked under the **Embeds** tab on the **Sharing** page, where each entry shows **Title**, **Embed URL**, **Created Date**, and **Created By**. Checking this list helps you keep track of where your assets are surfaced and confirm each embed still points to the right file.
