# Using permissions to power your brand portal

Brand portals aren't created automatically — you create one explicitly (via **Add Portal**) as a separate interface where other teams and partners find and download your content. Publishing assets, folders, and Collages to specific portals controls exactly what appears on each one.

## Publish to your portals

Use the **Portals** action on an asset, folder, or Collage to open the **Portals** dialog ("Display content on your portal"). It lists a switch for every portal you've created — turn a portal's switch on to publish the item there, or off to keep it out of that portal, then click **Save**.

- Publishing an **asset** makes it visible on the portals you select.
- Publishing a **folder** publishes it (and, if you choose, its subfolders and their contents — see below) to the portals you select.
- Publishing a **Collage** makes it visible on the portals you select.
- An item not published to any portal stays restricted — it won't show on any portal.

## How inheritance works

Inheritance is now an explicit choice you make while publishing, rather than automatic:

- When publishing a folder, turn on **Apply to all subfolders** to publish its subfolders (and their assets) to the same portal(s) in one step.
- Leave it off and subfolders and their assets keep whatever publish settings they already have.

### How Collages publish independently

- A Collage that isn't published to a portal won't appear there, but its assets can still be found through other Collages or folders that are published to that portal.
- A Collage published to a portal is found there, but assets within it that aren't also published to that portal won't be shown.

## Examples in action

- Publish polished marketing assets to a partner-facing portal while leaving work-in-progress drafts unpublished.
- Publish a campaign Collage to your public portal without publishing the support documents or early drafts stored alongside it.
