# Version history — update files without breaking links

The **Version History** tab lets you manage multiple versions of an asset — ideal for files you update regularly but need to keep past versions of. Every version you add is saved automatically, so older files are never lost.

## Open Version History

Open an asset and select the **Version History** tab. You'll see the current version alongside every previous version you've uploaded.

## Upload a new version

1. Open the asset and select the **Version History** tab.
2. Click the **Upload New Version** button and choose the updated file. (You can also drag and drop the updated file into the Version History section.)

Each new version is saved *without overwriting older versions*. The file you just added becomes the current version, and the previous ones remain available in the version list.

## Work with a specific version

For each older version, the options give you four controls:

- **Preview** — view that version without downloading it.
- **Download** — save a copy of that specific version.
- **Restore** — revert the asset to that version and make it current.
- **Delete** — permanently remove that version from history. This can't be undone, so use it with caution.

The current version offers **Download** only.

> Use **Restore** to roll back to a previous version after an unwanted update.

## Update a file without breaking its links

Because a new version updates the file on the **same asset** — rather than creating a separate asset — every share link you've already sent keeps working and automatically serves the *newest version*. Refresh a regularly-updated file (like a weekly report) in one place, and everyone who has the link sees the update without you re-sending anything.
